Martin chases title treble

Edinburgh’s Martin Campbell, who will be competing in the Commonwealth Youth Games in India this month, is aiming to win a title hat-trick in the Under 19 category at the Bank of Scotland National Junior Championships at Meadowbank in Edinburgh.

Martin is top seed in the singles and is favourite with Angus Gilmour (Troon) in the doubles.  The second seeds are another pair bound for the Commonwealth Youth Games, Longniddry’s Craig Pollock and Paul Van Rietvelde.

In the mixed doubles, Martin is also top seed with Cumbernauld’s Catriona Lawlor, with the danger expected to come from defending champions Van Rietvelde and Glasgow’s Gillian Sloan.

Lawlor, who defends her women’s doubles title, is also chasing a title treble as she and Mauchline’s Kaity Hall are top seeds in the women’s doubles. Gillian and Greenock’s Kirsty McGlynn are seeded to meet them in the final.

In the girls’ singles, Bothwell’s Kirsty Gilmour is the favourite ahead of her usual rival, Kirsty McGlynn (Greenock). Cariona Lawlor is the No.3 seed.

In the Under-15 Championships, there is a massive 49-strong entry for the boys’ singles where Josh Neil ( Prestwick) is top seed.

Josh is also chasing a title treble as he is top seed in the doubles with his Prestwick partner Ben Torrance and is No 2 seed in the mixed with Heather Campbell of Glasgow.

Rebekka Findlay (Erskine) Findlay is top seed in the girls’ singles where Troon’s Caitlin Gilmour is favoruite to come through and meet her in the final.
