Kieran Merrilees finishes Bulgarian International as beaten finalist
Glasgow 20-year-old Kieran Merrilees, the No. 8 seed, saw his great run come to an end in the final of the Bulgarian International in Sofia.
Merrilees had beaten England’s Harry Wright 21-12 22-20 in the semi-finals, but went down in a thrilling final to Denmark’s RuneUising. The Scot managed to take a close second game but lost 10-21 22-20 5-21.
In the women’s singles, Scottish Champion Susan Egelstaff, the N.3 seed, lost to favourite Petya Nedelcheva at the semi-final stage.
The Glasgow 26-year-old edged out the Danish sixth seed, Camilla Sorensen, 23-21 18-21 21-18 to reach the last four but then lost 18-21 21-10 19-21 to the local top seed.
