Kieran dashes to semi-final in Hungary

Qualifier Merrilees shocks the field in run to semi-finals of Hungarian International
Teenager Kieran Merrilees was a qualifier in the men’s singles at the Hungarian International – but he claimed a string of impressive scalps on his way to a shock appearance in the semi-final.
In the end, the Glasgow youngster’s great run came to an end 21-10 21-13 at the hands of the eventual winner, India’s Anand Pawar.
Fellow Glaswegian Gordon Thomson was another successful qualifier – and he managed to reach the second round of the main draw in the singles.
More good news for Scots in the world rankings. Imogen Bankier and Robert Blair have hit a new career high of No.11 in mixed doubles. Susan Hughes has climbed one place to No.33 in the women’s singles.
