Jillie wants to stock up in Sweden

Edinburgh’s Jillie Cooper is back on the title trail at this week’s Swedish Open in Stockholm.

The 20-year-old made a significant breakthrough at the end of last year when she won the women’s doubles at the Bank of Scotland International Championship and then the doubles and mixed events at the Welsh International.

In the Swedish capital, Cooper and England’s Mariana Agathangelou haven’t made it into the seeds and open against a strong pair of Sweden’s Elin Bergblom and Dutch veteran Judith Meulendijks.

But Cooper is seeded No.3 with Renfrew’s Watson Briggs in the mixed and they have been granted a bye into the last 16 where they could come up against England’s Robert Adcock and Heather Olver.

In the men’s doubles, Scotland’s Andy Bowman is seeded No.3 with regular Welsh partner, Martyn Lewis.

Making their final build-up to what promises to be an intriguing Yonex Scottish National Championship in Perth at the end of the month, Craig Goddard, Gordon Thomson and Kieran Merrilees all line-up in the qualifying rounds of the men’s singles.
