Jillie loses out to top seeds
Scotland's Jillie Cooper made a big breakthrough by reaching her first ever final on the European circuit with Belgium's Nathalie Descamps, but couldn't quite clear the last hurdle against the top seeded pair in the women's doubles at the Spanish Open in Madrid.
Playing together in a tournament for a first time - Cooper's regular Scottish partner, Linda Sloan, is currently injured - the unseeded duo enjoyed a great run, including a 21-15 21-12 semi-final win over Germany's Franziska Burbert and Carla Nelte.
But they met their match in a final against the favourites, Shendy Puspa Irawati and Meiliana Jauhari, with the Indonesians winning comfortably 21-10 21-10.
"I've had a good season, and one of my new goals was to at least reach a final of a European circuit event, and it's great to have done it this week," said Cooper, a 20-year-old from Edinburgh.
