Jilly Cooper and Emma Mason make semi finals in Dublin
Edinburgh pair Jillie Cooper and Emma Mason made a great debut as a women’s doubles partnership by reaching the semi-finals of the Yonex Irish International in Dublin.
In the quarter-finals, the Scots duo comfortably defeated Spain’s Laura Molina and Haida Ojeda 21-9 21-14 to set up a last four clash with Denmark’s Maria Helsbol and Anne Skelbaek.
It is the first time that Cooper and Mason have played together in a major tournament, and the showing bodes well as a possible partnership for next year’s Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
In the women’s singles, Scotland’s Susan Egelstaff, who won the Bank of Scotland International last month, suffered a disappointing defeat in the quarter-finals.
The Glasgow 27-year-old was the No. 2 seed, but went out 21-10 18-21 14-21 to the Dutch No. 6 seed, Rachel Van Cutsen.
In the mixed doubles, Cooper and England’s Chris Langridge reached the quarter-finals before going out to the English No.2 seeds, Robin Middleton and Mariana Agathangelou 14-21 21-17 9-21.
