Injury-ridden Scots face tough start to Sudirman Cup against Ukraine
With world top ten player Imogen Bankier and Scottish doubles champion Watson Briggs missing from the line-up, Scotland face a tough opening match against the Ukraine in the Sudirman Cup in China.
The Scots also face India and Australia in Group 3 – and will do exceptionally well to repeat the 19th place from Glasgow two years ago.
Briggs is unavailable due to university exams, while Bankier, ranked No.9 in the world in mixed doubles with England’s Robert Blair, was a late withdrawal with a back injury.
Susan Hughes (Glasgow), Jillie Cooper (Edinburgh), Linda Sloan (Glasgow) and comeback girl Emma Mason (Edinburgh) make up the women’s team, while Kieran Merrilees (Glasgow), Gordon Thomson (Glasgow), Andy Bowman (Belshill) and Thomas Bethell (Livingston) make up the men’s squad.
