Imogen Bankier progresses in women's and mixed doubles in Indonesian Super Series
Glasgow’s Imogen Bankier was in impressive form in winning both her women’s doubles and mixed ties in the first round of the Djarum Super Series in Indonesia.
Along with Edinburgh-born Robert Blair, Bankier came back from dropping the first game to defeat the unseeded Dutch pair of Jorrit de Ruiter Ilse Vaessan 16-21 21-19 21-10 and now meet Thailand’s Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam for a place in the quarterfinals.
In the women’s doubles, Bankier and English Olympian Donna Kellogg, playing in their second tournament together, easily overcame the local pair of Rani Mundiasti and Jo Novita by 21-12 21-18.
But they are likely to face a tougher task against the Chinese No. 6 seeds, Yawen Zhang and Ting Ting Zhao.
