Bankier and Blair make steady start in Indonesia
Glasgow's Imogen Bankier and Edinburgh-born Robert Blair, the Bank of Scotland Centenary Champions, made a super start to the mixed doubles at the Djarum Indonesia Super Series in Jakarta with a 21-11 21-17 win over Taiwan's Jen Cheng Chung and Ching Yung Tiem.
Seeded No.7, the pair ranked No.17 in the world now face Malaysia's Mohd Razif Abdul Latif and Sook Chin Chong for a place in the quarter-finals.
In the women's doubles, Bankier formed a new partnership with England's Suzanne Rayappan.
But the Milton Keynes flatmates couldn't pull off a shock debut victory. They did put up a spirited fight and came close to taking the second game, but lost 16-21 19-21 to Germany's Nicole Grether and Canadian Charmaine Reid.
