Rebekka Findlay cruises through first round at European under-17s
Glasgow badminton ace Rebekka Findlay kicked off her European under-17 campaign in emphatic style with a straight sets victory over Finland’s Maria Arnadottir.
The 15-year old reeled off ten consecutive points in a one-sided first set before taking the second in a similar manner and emerging 21-5, 21-6 winner.
The former national under-15 champion will face Sweden’s Matilda Nygren-Strandberg in the second round in Slovenia.
Meanwhile, the Scottish duo of Lewis Gallacher and Josh Neil were less fortuitous in the boy’s doubles, losing 18-21, 21-15, 21-19 to the Lithuanian pair of Povilas Bartusis and Alan Plavin.
National under-15 champion Neil will have the chance to make amends in the singles on Thursday when he takes on Spain’s Aitor Arraiza Imaz.
Scottish under-19 champion Kirsty Gilmour, seeded second in the girls competition, is also in action on Thursday against Turkey’s Nicole Ankli.
