Emma Mason and Jillie Cooper make strides at Volant d'Or tournament
Emma Mason, who played for Scotland in last month’s Sudirman Cup, has continued her comeback from her lengthy Achilles injury by reaching the quarter-finals of the women's doubles at the Volant d'Or tournament in Toulouse .
Emma and England's Jessica Fletcher beat France's Katrine Dio and Eloise Peauger 21-12 21-7 in the first round and followed that up with a good win over Elisa Chanteur and Barbara Matias in the second round, coming from a game down to win 13-21 21-15 21-11.
But the pair were unlucky enough to run into top seeds and eventual winners, Nina Vislova and Valeri Sorokina. The Russian winners of the 2005 and 2007 Bank of Scotland International titles won 21-15 21-18.
In the mixed doubles in Toulouse, Edinburgh's Jillie and England's Chris Langridge made it to the quarter-finals, eventually losing out 16-21 6-21to Denmark’s Rasmus Bonde and Britta Andersen.
This coming season, Emma, who has decided to take time out from Glasgow University, will be joining Jillie as a full-time badminton player based at the GB National Centre at Milton Keynes.
