Cooper and Briggs seeded second for Spanish Open
Jillie Cooper and Watson Briggs, two of Scotland's brightest young talents, have been named as the No.2 seeds in the mixed doubles for the forthcoming Spanish Open in Madrid.
In the women's singles, Susan Hughes, boosted by the recent announcement that she is to receive funding from Sportscotland, is the No 4 seed.
But the Scottish Champion has drawn a tough first round against a dangerous unseeded floater, China's Xin Xu Bing.
In the women's doubles, 20-year-old Jillie has teamed up with Belgium's Nathalie Descamps. Her Scottish partner, Linda Sloan, is out through injury, and Jillie said: "I'm looking forward to playing with Nathalie.
"Alan McIlvain (a Scot) is now the Belgian National Coach and he was very happy that we play together."
Jillie and Watson have already been earmarked for the London 2012 Olympic Games. "Our goal in our first season together was to reach the top 50 in the world," said Jillie. "We're now at No. 49 with the chance to get even higher after next week's Spanish Open, and then there is the French Open the following week.
"It would be great to at justify our seeding and reach the final in Spain - that would be another big breakthrough."
