Perfect warm up for Pune as Campbell does the double at Scottish Nationals
Edinburgh’s Martin Campbell, who will playing for Scotland in both the Commonwealth Youth Games and the World Junior Championships in India this month, completed a title double at the Bank of Scotland Scottish Under-19 Championships at Meadowbank in Edinburgh.
In the singles, the 18-year-old comfortably beat Troon’s Angus Gilmour 21-19 21-10. The pair then teamed up to win the doubles 21-14 21-16 against Longniddry pair Paul Van Rietvelde and Craig Pollock.
Campbell just failed to make it a title hat-trick when he and Catriona Lawlor (Cumbernauld) lost to defending champions, Van Rietvelde and Gillian Sloan(Glasgow), in three games in the mixed.
Kirsty Gilmour (Bothwell), who is only 15, showed her great promise by winning both the Under-19 singles and doubles. She defeated surprise finalist Kirsten Geals (Mauchline) 21-10 21-11 in the singles and the pair then teamed up to claim the doubles.
In the Under-15 Championships, Stewart Ferns (Dingwall) was an impressive double winner in the singles and doubles, while Rebekka Findlay (Erskine) took the girls’ singles.
