Andy Bowman among the seeds for the Austrian International in Vienna
Scottish Champion Gordon Thomson, who was left out of Scotland’s team for last week’s European Championships in Liverpool, and 19-year-old Kieran Merrilees are in the main draw for the men’s singles at Austrian International in Vienna.
Linda Sloan carries Scottish hopes in the women’s singles, while Andy Bowman is the only Scot among the seeds.
The experienced man from Bellshill is the no.2 seed with Wales’ Martyn Lewis in the men’s doubles. Other Scots in the men’s doubles draw are the young pair of Thomas Bethell and Paul Van Rietvelde, and Watson Briggs and Matthew Honey (England).
Merrilees has already reached the final of the Welsh International on the European circuit this year – and the Glasgow teenager is growing in confidence all the time.
“Last week’s European Championships were a great experience,” he said. “It was so good to get the chance to play at that level and I’m now really looking forward to a good week in Vienna.”
