Bowman carries Scottish hopes
Andy Bowman was the sole Scot left in action as the Austrian International reached the quarter-final stage in Vienna.
 
Bowman and Wales’ Martyn Lewis, the No.2 seeds, progressed to the last eight of the men’s doubles with an easy 21-16 21-12 win over the home pair of Daniel Grassmuek and Roman Zirnwald.
 
In the men’s singles Scottish Champion Gordon Thomson took a game against Malaysia’s Kay Bin Yeon, but went out 15-21 21-18 14-21.
 
Kieran Merrillees, the Glasgow 19-year-old, then lost 15-21 11-21 to the
No.7 seed from Japan, Kazushi Yamada.
 
In the women’s singles, Glasgow’s Linda Sloan came up against a stiff
opponent in No.4 seed, Jill Pittard. The English player won 21-12 21-10.
