Bankier aiming to medal in the mixed
Glasgow's Imogen Bankier started the new season by going out in the first round of the women's doubles at the Yonex Japan Open - but has high hopes of reaching the medal stages of the mixed doubles.
Bankier and England's Sarah Bok lost their opening tie 14-21 15-21 in the Super Series tournament to Thailand's Duang Anong Aroonkesorn and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul.
In the mixed, Bankier and England's Robert Blair, the Bank of Scotland Centenary Champions, are seeded No.3 and open their campaign today against South Koreans Yeon Song Yoo and Min Jung Kim.
The British pair are ranked No.13 in the world, 21 places higher than Yoo and Kim.
With Gail Emms (retired) and Nathan Robertson having split up, Bankier and Blair are now the second ranked GB pair behind the No.9 ranked Olympians, Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg.
