Bankier in – Hughes out

Scotland’s Imogen Bankier and England’s Robert Blair, the Bank of Scotland Centenary Champions, outdid Britain’s new celebrity partnership of Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork to reach the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the Denmark Open Super Series in Odense.

Bankier and Blair, the No.6 seeds, were always in control against Robertson, a 2004 Olympic silver medalist, and his new young partner and ended with a comfortable 21-15 21-12 victory.

They now meet Danish qualifiers Christian Skovgaard and Anne Shelback for a place in the semi-finals.

But Scot Susan Hughes suffered a disappointing defeat to Adrianti Firdasari (Indonesia).  Ranked nine places higher at No.34 in the world, the Glasgow 26-year-old had a game point in the second before losing on her third match point, 14-21 22-24.
