Andrew the top seed

Bearsden badminton ace Andrew Gilliand heads to the Bulgarian Junior International as the red-hot favourite after being drawn as the top seed for the event in Pazardjik.

The 18-year-old is one of a handful of Scots travelling to Eastern Europe and will face home hope Todor Rusinov in the first round of the 32-strong draw.

Gilliand will also join forces with Danny Leinster – from Glasgow – in the men’s doubles and after being seeded third will come up against Bulgarian pair Ivan Rusev and Ivan Trakov.

However Gilliand’s busy weekend doesn’t end there as he will partner Romania’s Sonia Olariu in the mixed doubles against Turkish duo Emre Vural and Ebru Yazgan.

Meanwhile Leinster joins Gilliand in the main draw ranked joined fifth and the 18-year-old will start his bid against Emre Lale of Turkey.
