Twell out to prove the doubters wrong

Scot Steph Twell insists her transition from promising junior to fully-fledged senior is still on track – despite her disappointing finish to the season.

Expectations were high for the 20-year-old going to the World Championships in Berlin last month after a year which had seen her finish second at the National Championships in Birmingham as well as setting a new personal best in Monaco.

But Twell – who failed to get through her 1500m heat in Germany – believes she will prove her doubters wrong.

“My achievements are going to plan,” she said. “When you step up, age doesn’t come into it.

“If you’re qualifying and representing your country, it’s about achieving the sort of times you need.

“I’m stepping up to the times older girls are running but I have to bear in mind I am still young.”
