Twell adds weight to world bid with new PB in Monte Carlo
Recent Scotland recruit Steph Twell justified her inclusion in the World Championship squad by marching to a new 1500m personal best in Monte Carlo.
Twell was given the nod to run in the 1500m in Berlin ahead of 22-year-old Hannah England in one of the most difficult selection issues UKA Head Coach Charles van Commenee faced.
Charlene Thomas was guaranteed her spot after winning the World Trials in Birmingham while Lisa Dobriskey forced her way in with a last minute return to form at the Aviva London Grand Prix on July 25.
But any doubts over Twell's inclusion, the 19-year-old was second at the World Trials, were dispelled at the Herculis Meeting with Twell roaring to a personal best time of 4:03.48 minutes with England coming home in 4:04.29 minutes.
Twell, who announced recently that she would compete for Scotland in next year's Commonwealth Games - has had a meteoric rise to the senior ranks after winning the World Junior 1500m title in 2008.
