Twell fuming as World Championship spot in doubt

New scottish recruit Steph Twell was left fuming after an under-par 1500m showing at the Aviva London Grand Prix potentially cost her a place at next month's World Championships in Rome.

Twell, who recently announced she will run for Scotland at next year Commonwealth Games, could only finish fifth at the south London track.

Despite clocking the fastest GB 1500m time of the year with 4.03.62minutes in Warsaw last month, Twell's defeat at the last week's trials in Birmingham mean the 19-year-old's place is far from guaranteed.

Charlene Thomas' victory in Birmingham guarantees her spot. But with Olympic finalist Lisa Dobriskey returning to form with third at Crystal Palace and Hannah England also in the hunt, a far from happy Twell faces an anxious wait to see who gets the nod for the final two places.

"Of course you always go into the race with a tactic but I'm really disappointed and disappointed with the pace making to be honest," said Twell.

"I hope I'm still in the running for the Worlds. My second place at the trial two weeks ago will definitely add weight to my case."
