Eilidh Child impresses with confident heats victory in Kaunas at Euro u-23s
Perthshire's Eilidh Child underlined her medal potential with an impressive 400m hurdles heats win at the European under-23 Athletics Championships in Lithuania.
Child won in 56.53 seconds to advance to the semi-finals as the quickest qualifier, ahead of Russia's Darya Korableva and Denmark's Sara Petersen.
"I just went for it," said Child.
"I felt like I needed to get a good run in but I was able to relax towards the finish."
British team-mate Perri Shakes-Drayton was fourth quickest in 57.35 secs but she did have to contend with the worst of the weather, which left the track in Kaunas almost waterlogged.
However, Scottish record holder James Campbell just missed out on a place in the men's javelin final.
Campbell, 21, produced a best effort of 72.57 metres in qualifying which ranked him 13th - with only the top 12 advancing to the final.
"I felt good, I just didn't catch one," he said. "I thought I was going to have it on my last one. Conditions were alright, but a lot of the guys struggled."
Petr Frydrych, of the Czech Republic, was the top qualifier with a 77.56m effort.
