Scottish 100m champion Nick Smith takes third in Loughborough
Scottish 100m champion Nick Smith insists there are plenty of positives to take from his performance at the Loughborough International, despite coming home in third place.
The 26-year-old was competing in his first major outdoor competition of the season, having clocked 10.68 seconds at the Scottish Inter-Regional Championships last weekend.
Smith came home behind Loughborough?s Seyi Smith, who picked up BUCS gold earlier this month, and Jeffrey Lawal Balogun, who has already competed in five outdoor competitions in the USA this season.
And Smith is adamant he is more than capable of achieving the 10.25 secs needed to book his place at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
?It?s early days for me at the moment,? he said. ?The guys that have beaten me have had plenty of big races this season but this is my first one.
?But I can take positives from the race ? I thought I had a good 40-60 metres and I?ll be looking to peak for the AAAs in July.
?The qualifying time for the Commonwealths is 10.25 secs and that?s just 0.03 secs quicker than my personal best so I know I?m capable of it.?
