Catriona Morrison wins silver at ITU World Duathlon Championships
Broxburn’s Catriona Morrison once again confirmed her status as one of the world’s greatest duathletes by winning a silver medal in the ITU World Duathlon Championships in Italy, just a few months after recovering from a serious knee injury.
It’s was Morrison’s sixth medal in duathlon championships, while the gold went to Vanessa Fernandes of Portugal, who led from the outset.
Although she finished one-and-a-half minutes behind Fernandes, Morrison still managed to finish nearly two minutes ahead of her nearest rival, Ana Burgos of Spain, in a time of 2.02.27.
Morrison, the long distance duathlon world champion, was pleased with her result, saying: “I’m pretty happy with my race considering that I time trialled the bike leg alone!
“Vanessa led the race from start to finish in an impressive performance which left me trying to control the damage!”
