Sichel back on track

Orkney’s international ultra marathon specialist William Sichel (55) travels to Humberside this weekend to run in the Hull 24 Hour track race starting at 10.00am on Saturday July 11th.

This will be William’s first race since setting his first World Record on the road in Greece in April.  He recorded 466.65 miles in the first 6 days of the 7 Day race and hung on to win the event outright as well.

“I’ve had an excellent recovery from Athens and have put in some quality training since then.  I will be coming down in distance for this event and look forward to tackling a 24 hour event again.”

William admits that the 24 hour event is the only ultra event he has failed to become consistent at.  Although having a couple of performances over 150 miles the vast majority are under the 135 mile mark and surprisingly his personal best for a track event remains at 125.52 miles achieved on his winning debut back in 1996.

The Hull event is a popular one, held at a top class venue, the Costello Stadium.  A capacity entry of about 40 runners will start the event.

In order to allow more people to be involved in his events William has arranged for his web site to be updated during the race – visit www.williamsichel.co.uk

William currently holds six ultra distance running records at Scottish, British and World level.  William remains unbeaten in events longer than 48 hours in duration.
