Canadian Primeau named as Scottish Athletics new head coach
Scottish athletics have appointed Canadian Laurier Primeau as their new head coach in the build up to the London 2012 Olympics and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The 37-year-old has a wealth of experience across the Atlantic and is currently Canadian national team coach for jumps, combined events and relays.
Primeau will begin his position in Scotland on November 1 two days after being introduced to 400 coaches at the International Festival of Athletics Coaching in Glasgow.
The Canadian’s first year through to next year’s Commonwealth Games in India will be a transitional period but Primeau admitted he can’t wait to get going north of the border.
“Not only is there a great tradition for the sport in Scotland but there is also a fantastic opportunity for the future of track and field in the country,” said Primeau.
“Coaches such as Frank Dick and Tommy Boyle are famous the world over for producing incredible talent and athletes like Allan Wells and Liz McColgan have provided Scotland with a rich history.
“I am excited by the prospect of working with the coaches and athletes who are the present and future of athletics in Scotland.”
