Scott grabs Olympic lifeline

East Kilbride’s Allan Scott has done everything in his power to book his place to Beijing after two outstanding efforts in the Loughborough European Athletics Permit meeting on Thursday.

He clocked an outstanding 13:53s in his heat - inside the Olympic 'A' qualifying mark of 13:55s and a massive personal best - before recording a wind-assisted 13:41s in the final.

Scott can now do nothing but wait for the call to say he will be on the plane, but he can rest easy in the knowledge that he has now done all that is required of him.

Scott, of Shaftesbury Barnet, had previously clocked multiple Olympic 'B' standards in the 110m hurdles this season, finished second in the Aviva UK Championships and Olympic Trials in Birmingham at the weekend (Saturday 12th July), racing to a season's best (13.67s) in the men's 110m hurdles, but it wasn't good enough for gold, which went to GB team mate and rival Andy Turner (Sale) in 13.58s, or for Beijing.

The World Indoor Championships finalist will now have to wait until the final selections are made after today’s midnight deadline, but his case is most definitely a strong one.
