Former Olympic gold medallist to give masterclass to young Scottish athletes
Former Olympic gold medallist Dick Fosbury is set to give young Scottish athletes a high jump masterclass in a bid to develop a new generation of stars.
Fosbury, who scooped gold at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968, will visit Scotland next month for the first time to pass on his expertise.
The American revolutionised the event when he smashed the world record to claim top spot on the Olympic podium with his new technique, now widely known at the 'Fosbury Flop'.
And the 62-year-old is hoping to inspire promising Scottish athletes when he holds his talent camp at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.
"I have never been to Scotland before so am really looking forward to my visit to Glasgow next month, said Fosbury.
"I can't wait to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the discipline of high jump with the Bank of Scotland Talented Young Athletes High Jump Squad and their coaches.
"It is extremely flattering that today the high jump technique that I developed so long ago is used almost exclusively by all high jumpers."
