Glasgow athlete sets her sights on the European Junior Championships
City of Glasgow athlete Beth Potter insists the hard work starts now as she bids for glory at this summer's European Junior Championships in Serbia.
The 17-year-old achieved the qualifying time for the showpiece event in Novi Sad in July with a personal best 3000m time of 9:15 minutes at the Loughborough International meeting on May 17.
Potter's hopes of breaking into the big time were given a further boost this week after she was handed a financial bursary under the UK Athletics Heroes Project, supported by Original Source.
But with the City of Glasgow athlete still needing to finish in the top two in the AAA Championships in July to cement her qualification, the Scottish teenager insists the hard work is only just beginning.
"Getting the qualifying time last week was a real relief because it takes the pressure off a little bit," said Potter.
"There's still a lot of hard work to be done to get to the event but I know I can go even quicker to make sure I'm on the plane for Serbia.
"Lougborough was a great start to my season and it has given me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.
"I've not got that many races coming up but with the AAA's taking place I know I've got to continue to train hard to make sure I'm in great shape."
