Jayne Nisbet vows to bounce back after missing out on European spot
Capital high jumper Jayne Nisbet set her sights on medalling at next month's British Championships and World Trials after missing out on qualification for the European under-23 Championships this weekend.
The 20-year-old finished joint third at the England under-23 Championships and European Trials in Bedford on Sunday as she fell short of the 1.86m qualifying standard needed to gain automatic qualification for the showpiece event of the year in Lithuania next month.
It was a double disappointment for Nisbet as she also surrendered the title she won 12 months ago, with British rival Adele Lassu taking that honour with a clearance of 1.82m, four centimetres better than the Edinburgh AC member.
But Nisbet vowed to bounce back from her Bedford woe by climbing the podium in Birmingham next month, when the best in the business descend on Birmingham targeting World Championship qualification next month.
"I'm a bit disappointed but it's better than what I've been jumping. That jump was actually pretty competitive so I can't really complain," said Nisbet, who is part of the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes initiative.
"I need to move on and the aim now is to medal at the British Championships in a few weeks time and then just take it from there, see what happens for the rest of the season.
"I'm confident I can re-find my form so it's good just to come here. I love jumping events like this where the competition is high."
