Freya Murray captures shock win in Great Yorkshire run
Edinburgh's Freya Murray has claimed a shock victory at the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield.
The 25-year-old romped home in the 10,000m race in a personal best time of 32:28 minutes, taking victory in a sprint finish ahead of Australian duo Benita Williams and Nikki Chapple, who were second and third respectively.
Murray was crowned British 5000m champion back on the track in Birmingham in July but was not quick enough to meet the qualifying criteria to make the trip to the World Championships last month.
She was forced to miss out on both the European and World Cross Country Championships this season but having relocated to the USA, Murray believes he can capitalise on her latest breakthrough.
"It went really well, everything just seemed to go to plan," said the Edinburgh AC ace. "This is my first proper 10,000m race on the roads so it's very pleasing to win and now I'm desperate to stay injury-free this winter."
