Murray chasing bigger challenges

Edinburgh AC distance runner Freya Murray has set her sights on impressing at the Golden League meeting at Crystal Palace a week on Friday following her Aviva UK Championship and World Trials success.

In difficult conditions at the weekend the 25-year-old - who is the current national cross country champion but has still to win a Scottish track title, stormed to the 5,000m title at the expense of England's Charlotte Purdue in a time of 15.45.07 minutes.

Despite the success Murray still has some work to do with her winning time over ten seconds outside the Scottish Commonwealth Games qualifying standard for Delhi next year and a further ten seconds down on the 'B' standard for next month's World Championships.

And the Heriot-Watt graduate is now excited about testing herself at international level, she said: "I'd like to see what I can do with a stronger field.

"But the victory in Birmingham was certainly one of the highlights of my career so far."
