McNamee targeting win on home soil as Strathclyde hosts 2009's first British triathlon
Stirling Triathlon Club's David McNamee is convinced the Strathclyde Park Elite Triathlon will provide him with the perfect opportunity to book his place at this June?s European Under-23 Championships in Italy.
British Triathlon has today announced that their first elite event of the year will take place on Sunday May 17 at Strathclyde Country Park, which will play host to the 2014 Commonwealth Games triathlon.
It's the third time North Lanarkshire will host the competition but the first time it will be raced over elite standard distances, leaving McNamee certain it will boost his chances in Italy this summer.
"I can't wait to race on home soil in Strathclyde Park," he said.
"It's a great venue for athletes and spectators.
"I'm racing to win my place in the GB team for the European Under 23 Championships in Italy in June.
"I was brought up in Ayrshire and went to school in Glasgow so I hope there will be plenty of home support to help me achieve that."
British Triathlon currently boasts four British world champions in the form of Helen Jenkins (senior), Kirsty McWilliam (junior), Alistair Brownlee (under 23) and Chrissie Wellington (long distance).
