Lee McConnell anchors GB relay quartet into final in Berlin
Lee McConnell succesfully anchored the British 4x400m relay team through their semi-final on Saturday night.
The Scot was a surprise final-leg runner for the team with Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu rested for tomorrow night’s final but McConnell is a seasoned campaigner in the 4x400m relay and was more than capable of handling the pressure.
And although the quartet didn’t finish in the top three automatic places, their time of 3.25.23 minutes was safely quick enough to qualify as a fastest loser.
McConnell admitted she wasn’t expecting to finish fourth but the important job of qualifying was done.
“I’m glad we qualified.” Said McConnell. “But I didn't really sense the German coming behind me on the home straight.
“It's a bit annoying we didn't finish in the top three but I'm just happy to have qualified.”
