McConnell's World Championship hopes in the balance

Scottish athlete Lee McConnell's hopes of making the plane for next month's World Championships in Berlin are hanging in the balance after a disappointing run at the Aviva London Grand Prix.

McConnell, pencilled in for the 4x400m Berlin relay team - headed to the Crystal Palace meeting with high hopes that a return to 400m form could also secure her an individual spot.

But the 30-year-old, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury, finished a disappointing eighth at the south London track in 52.54seconds, exactly a second behind GB rival Nicola Sanders.

"It was a hard race but my hamstring is not as bad as it was," said McConnell.

"I don't know about Berlin yet. It's going to depend on the selectors now and I will just have to wait to see what they decide.

"I've just got to think about being ready and moving forward for the World Championships now and concentrate on that."
