Lee McConnell ready to deliver if called upon for 4x400m in Berlin
Scotland’s remaining hopes at the World Championships rest on Lee McConnell’s shoulders – and the 30-year-old has vowed not to disappoint if given the nod in the 4x400m relay quartet.
McConnell is a known performer in the British relay team but it is still not certain whether she will be given the call after being struck down with injury last month.
The Scot faces competition from Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu, Nicola Sanders, Vicki Barr, Perri Shakes-Drayton and Marilyn Okoro to make the final four.
But with two World Championship relay bronze medals from 2005 and 2007 already in the trophy cabinet McConnell is confident of adding to her collection.
"We've got the same four girls that got bronze last time in Osaka as well as two very strong additions, so there's no reason we can't repeat that performance and even improve on that," said McConnell.
"At all of the major relay meets it's always between us, the Americans, the Russians and the Jamaicans, but we've beaten the Russians and the Jamaicans in recent years and we can do it again."
