McConnell cautious on Glasgow

Sprinter Lee McConnell admitted she may retire before the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland if she believes she is past her sell by date.

The 30-year-old came close to throwing in the towel after a muscle tear to her quad ruled her out of last summer's Olympics in Beijing.

McConnell will be 35 by the time the Games roll into Glasgow and admitted she won't be going unless she can give her home fans something to shout about.

"I don't want to go there and go out in the heats, I want to be running well in front of my home crowd and really be in contention for a medal," said McConnell.

"If I am not then I might try and get involved in some other capacity. I haven't set a date for retirement because I want to run at the 2012 Olympics.

"That is the time when I am going to have to assess where my body is and if I am going to stay injury-free.

"The next thing will be Glasgow but all I can do is go to 2012 and see if I want to do that."
