Mixed feelings for Scots McConnell and Child at European Team Championships
Glasgow's Lee McConnell insists she will not dwell on the disappointment of a fourth-place finish at the European Team Championships in Leiria, Portugal.
The 30-year-old 400m specialist clocked 51.92 seconds, more than a second slower than her personal best, as she earned nine points for Great Britain.
But with the 4x400m relay scheduled for Sunday and the World Championships trials scheduled for July 10, McConnell is adamant she will be back with a bang.
"I'm feeling in good shape this season and feel like there is a good time in me," said McConnell. "But at the moment I'm not doing it when it matters.
"I struggled with the heat a bit coming down the home straight but I always enjoy the relay and will be back stronger than this."
Meanwhile fellow Scot Eilidh Child clocked 55.48 secs in the 400m hurdles, just 0.02 secs outside her personal best.
"Just to be here is a bonus for me," said 22-year-old Child. "I went out hard and paid for it in the home straight but just to be here and get the experience is great."
