McConnell one of three Scots selected in British European Team Championships squad
Sprinter Lee McConnell is one of three Scots selected to represent Great Britain at this month's European Team Championships in Portugal.
McConnell will fly the Scottish flag alongside hurdler Eilidh Child and 800m runner Colin McCourt in Leira after being given the nod by UKA head coach Charles van Commenee.
Child has already achieved the qualifying standard for Augusts? World Championships in Berlin while McConnell and McCourt, the only male Scot in the team, will be hoping to do the same in Portugal.
There is no room in the team for hepthathlete Jess Ennis however with van Commenee revealing every athlete has been selected on current form.
He said: "We have selected every athlete purely on a performance basis and not on promise or potential.
"It is all about who are the best people for the job. We have selected the strongest possible team from the athletes who are fit."
