Lee McConnell finds form as she and Eilidh Child help GB to bronze
Lee McConnell overcame her disappointing fourth in the 400m to capture bronze in the 4x400m relay in the European Team Championships in Leiria, Portugal.
The 30-year-old was more than a second shy of her personal best in the individual event but looked a different athlete as she ran the final leg to clinch a podium position for the British team.
McConnell collected the baton in fourth but ran a lightning-fast time of 50.59 seconds to catch her German rival and squeeze past her on the line.
Kinross's Eilidh Child, who was 0.02 secs away from a personal best in the 400m hurdles on Saturday, ran the second leg for the team in 53.2 secs.
The bronze medal was an unexpected bonus for the British quartet after Olympic gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu pulled out of the event with a virus and her replacement, Jenny Meadows, had injury worries of her own.
The women's performance combined with the men's 4x400m gold meant the British team finished the inaugural tournament third overall.
