Micah Kogo ready to better himself in Great Edinburgh Run
Kenya's Micah Kogo is convinced he can take another chunk off his 10,000m world record at Sunday's Great Edinburgh Run.
The 22-year-old Olympic bronze medallist, became the 10,000m off-track world record holder in March, eclipsing Ethopia's Haile Gebrselassie's mark in 27.01 minutes.
Standing in Kogo's way will be compatriot Bernard Kipyego, who won the 2008 Great Edinburgh Run, but Kogo is adamant his debut in the Scottish capital will be one to remember.
"It will not be easy and the problem could be the weather conditions. We'll try to push it and see how fast we can run it," said Kogo.
"It's my first time in Edinburgh, but it's not my first time in UK. I've been competing in Manchester and in the 10,000m in London.
"On Sunday, I have to do my best to take the title from Bernard. He is a strong man.
"He normally trains hard in Kenya and he's my friend, but I know when we go to the field, we shall fight to see who will win the race."
In the women's race, American Denna Kastor will be making her first appearance since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she was one of the pre-race favourites for the marathon but broke her foot just three miles into the race.
