Kirsty steps up to seniors
Kirsty McWilliam, who underlined her huge potential as a surprise winner of the World Junior Championship in Vancouver last month, will take part in a major senior event in London next month.

The 18-year-old from Milton of Campsie will be heading for the Mazda London Triathlon on August 9-10 - four years from now she hopes to be competing in London at the Olympic games.

"London is the world's biggest triathlon and I'm really looking forward to it," said the teenager who is coached by John Dargie. "I've still got one more year as a junior, but I'll now be competing in a lot of senior triathlons."

While Kirsty is not in this year's Olympic team, she will be heading to Beijing next month as part of the Britain's Olympic Ambition 2012 Programme.

Kirsty has just left Kilsyth Academy and has accepted a sports scholarship from Stirling University. She will start a degree in biology in the autumn.
