Kastor and Kogo produce convincing performances to win BUPA Great Edinburgh Run
Deena Kastor delivered on her pre-race promise and convincingly won the BUPA Great Edinburgh Run.
The American, in her first race since breaking her foot in the Beijing marathon, sprang away early on the testing 10km circuit around the Scottish capital's landmarks.
She finished 38 seconds clear of nearest rival Latvia's Jelena Prokopcuka - the three-times former winner - crossing the line in 32 minutes 37 seconds. Sally Barsosio claimed third.
"It's my first time here in Scotland and I can't imagine a better way to cap off my weekend," said Kastor, the London Marathon winner in 2006.
"This is my first race back in international competition after Beijing and it could not have gone any better."
Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist Micah Kogo ran clear of Kenyan rival Bernard Kipyego to win the men's race.
However, the demanding course ultimately made any bid at lowering his 10,000m world road race record impossible.
Kogo and Kipyego moved clear of their rivals early in the race and then Kogo hammered down his advantage in the final two kilometres.
However, his winning time of 28 minutes and 12 seconds took ten seconds off Spain's Juan de la Ossa course record, set four years ago.
Kipjego finished clear in second while Spain's Jose Manuel Martinez was third.
Jon Brown - who finished fourth for Great Britain in the 2004 Olympic marathon - was fifth in the colours of Canada, where he switched allegiancein 2005.
