Holmes tips Scott for return to form

Double Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes is backing Glasgow athlete Susan Scott to put her Beijing disappointment firmly behind her with a return to form this summer.

Scott suffered Olympic heartache in the Far East last summer, narrowly missing out on a place in the 1500m final after finishing fourth in her semi.

The 31-year-old has shown good early season form claiming the British 1500m indoor crown in Sheffield in February and the Middlesbrough Elite Mile in March.

And Holmes, who won double gold in the 800m and 1500m at the Athens Games in 2004, believes Scott's return to form couldn't be better timed with this year's World Championships in Berlin on the horizon.

"I know Susan Scott well and a few years ago she was doing brilliantly," said Scott. "I raced against her a few times in the 800 metres but she has moved to the 1500m now and is doing well.

"She's certainly got the talent and ability to go far. She has had, like everyone else, a few injuries but she has really shown herself to have the ability to go far.

"The 1500 metres is really open now across the world now because the Russians have gone.

"It's probably the best chance for British middle-distance female runners to do something.

"If they are ever going to do something amazing then it's going to be over the next few years because it is such a level playing field now."
