Henderson leaps to new PB
He may be too young to drive but in terms of carving out a promising athletics career it seems 16 year-old Kyle Henderson is already firmly in the driving seat.

For at a junior league athletics meeting in Carlisle on Saturday, the Central based athlete produced a personal best long jump of 6.74 metres to not just win the event but also place him 4th best long jumper at U-17 level in the UK.

His jump is particularly impressive when one considers that the performance target stipulated by Scottish Athletics for long-jump is currently 6.70metres for an U-23 athlete, 6.45 metres at U-20 level and 6.15 metres for the U-17's.

However, there have been signs for at least the past 12 months that Henderson has a special athletics talent.

For at the Scottish School Championships last June, Henderson was awarded the prestigious Eric Liddell Memorial Trophy after setting two new championship best performances in the 200 metres (22.99 seconds) and long-jump (6.19 metres) - the first time in 25 years that two new such records had been set.
