Heat is on for Jayne

Edinburgh high jumper Jayne Nisbet admitted the heat is on as she bids to turn her European under-23 Championship dream into a reality this weekend.

The 20-year-old will head down to trials at the Bedford International Athletics Stadium as the bookies favourite having scooped gold with a personal best jump of 1.82m last year.

Nisbet is yet to hit those heights so far this season but will have reason to be confident having recorded 1.80m on the way to Scottish National Championship success in Pitreavie last weekend.

The former George Watson's College pupil finished a full ten centimetres in front of second-place Rachael MacKenzie but is expecting things to step up a gear in Bedford with places on the plane to Lithuania up for grabs.

"Being the current champion I think a lot of people will see me as the one to beat which does put me under a bit of pressure," said Nisbet.

"But I really hope to make the top to Lithuania because it is a major championship and competing against the best young talent in the world would be brilliant.

"It was good to get out at the Scottish Nationals, I put in some solid jumps and it was good to get that in before Bedford.

"Things have been up and down so far this season but I have been training well over the past couple of weeks and I know Bedford really well."
