Clegg enjoys success at BT Paralympic World Cup

Edinburgh sprinter Libby Clegg claimed 100m gold at the BT Paralympic World Cup on Sunday, in what was her first competitive outing since Beijing.

The 19-year-old, who claimed 100m silver in the Far East last September, got the better of Slovakian Hana Kolnikova at the Manchester Regional Arena to top the podium in a time of 12.78 seconds.

The Border Harriers AC teenager returned to the track later in the afternoon to finish third in the 200m after clocking a time of 26.57 seconds.

And Clegg, who won double bronze at the Paralympic World Cup in 2007, was delighted with her afternoon's work after returning to the track for the first time since he Beijing heroics.

"It's my first time competing since Beijing so it feels good to be back and I'm going home with two medals at the end of the day," said Clegg, who trailed home behind Assia El Hannouni of France in the 200m.

"I was a bit tired in the second race because I only had an hour to rest before I had to compete again so it wasn't ideal.

"My legs were a bit heavy but I got through it alright and I'm only going to get fitter

"This kind of gives me an indicator of how I'm going to run this year and that's a pretty good time for me so that's a good sign and hopefully I'll get better anyway as the season goes on."
