Eilidh Child fails to make final but insists best is yet to come
Scotland’s Eilidh Child insists she will bounce back stronger than ever after failing to reach the 400m hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships.
The 22-year-old Pitreavie ace clocked 56.21 seconds on her way to sixth in her semi final – nearly a second slower than the personal best she set on the way to European under-23 silver earlier this summer.
But Child, who fared better than British team-mate and rival Perri Shakes-Drayton by more than a second, is convinced the experience of her first major championships will be paramount.
"I was pleased with my performance and thought I ran quite well," she said. "I'm a little disappointed with my time but I'm still happy to get to the semi finals.
"Coming here from the uner-23s you feel pretty insignificant but it's a good marker for me because it's my first ever major tournament.
“And it’s important to test yourself against the very best and let them know that you’re around, so I can be happy all round.”
