Eilidh Child chasing a spot at 2010 European Championships
Perthshire hurdler Eilidh Child insists she will be targeting a place in next year’s European Championships final after a hugely productive 2009.
The 22-year-old 400m hurdles ace achieved her initial aim for the season after reaching the European under-23 final in Lithuania and going on to claim silver in a personal best time of 55.32 seconds.
But Child’s season didn’t end there with the Scottish youngster gaining selection for the World Championships in Berlin where she went on to reach the semi-finals.
And with the Europeans in Barcelona scheduled for July and the Commonwealth Games set to get underway in October, Child admits her targets have moved on from this year.
“I can only do as well as I can, but I want to be making the final in Barcelona,” said Child, speaking during an Aviva Academy session at the George Duncan Athletics Centre in Perth.
“I think after Berlin I was the tenth fastest in Europe and I hope to have moved on a year from now. Once you make a final anything can happen so that has to be the aim.
“As for the Commonwealths that will be special as I’m representing Scotland!”
