Eilidh Child: "I can't believe I'm about to make my World Championship debut"
Eilidh Child admitted she has had to put the champagne on ice ahead of her World Championship debut– after revealing she is still shocked to be in Berlin.
The 22-year-old thought the curtain had come down on her impressive season after claiming 400m hurdles silver at the European Under-23 Championships in Lithuania last month.
But just when Child was ready to pack up her spikes UKA head coach Charles van Commenee came knocking and offered the Scot her world bow.
Child – from Perth – is on the verge of getting her first taste of the Olympic Stadium in the heats of the 400m hurdles but admitted there has been little time to celebrate her achievements this year.
“The World Championships were never in my plan – I had a great winter but I didn’t know how I was going to compete or how it was going to go at all,” said Child – who earned her first senior GB vest at the European Team Championships in June.
“My aim was the under-23s and I thought that the Worlds would be a season too early. But this year has been overwhelming and I haven’t had the chance to stop and take it all in.
“I have had one big race after another – but when it all calms down I will reflect and enjoy what has been a great season.”
